Northwest Natural Resource Group / Northwest Certified Forestry

The Northwest Natural Resource Group supports the growth of a profitable, sustainable, and environmentally sound timber industry in Washington State, primarily through our Northwest Certified Forestry program for small landowners. NNRG has been a long-time advocate for Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certification in the Northwest and continues to work to make certification affordable, functional, and accessible to everyone participating in the forest products economy. Our newest program, Watershed Innovation, focuses on providing access for small landowners to emerging markets for ecosystem services such as carbon sequestration, water quality, and wildlife habitat and aggregating the positive impacts these landowners can have on a larger watershed scale.

Oregon's Master Woodland Manager Program

MWMs are qualified small family forest land owners (small woodland owners) who receive specialized training by OSU Forestry Extension to be effective volunteers and community leaders. In return for approximately 85 hours of free instruction in subject areas that range from management planning, wildlife management, ecology, and forest inventory methods, MWMs provide an in-kind service in through various volunteer activities. One of the most important functions of an MWM is to assist neighbors, offering guidance and pointing them to local sources of assistance. Besides working with neighboring landowners, MWMs have optimized their own strengths and skills to complete their service in a variety of ways. Women Owning Woodlands

The Oregon Women Owning Woodlands Network was developed by the Oregon State University Extension Service to: 1) recognize the growing role of women forestland managers; 2) empower women by raising their basic forestry and decision-making skill levels through hands-on, fun educational opportunities; and 3) to encourage communication among women woodland managers through the development of statewide and local networks. Volunteer “Local Hosts” work with OSU Extension to form small regional groups. These groups become self-directed and prioritize the topics, location, and dates of subsequent sessions. Although this program targets women woodland managers, men are welcome to attend and their support has been critical to the success of the program.
